A little bit of Fondant Cakes

I have started making cakes recently and have learned a lot. I finally made my first wedding cake. I am going to post my cakes from my last one to my first and you can see the progress.

This cake was for my cousins music themed wedding. It turned out exactly like she wanted and was so fun to make.

This cake was for my sisters birthday. I have always wanted to do the birthday banner on top of a cake so I did and I loved how it turned out.

This cake was for my other sisters birthday. I loved the bright colors she chose and the ruffles. So fun. (as you can see I have been trying out all the different techniques)

This was my son's 2nd birthday cake, transportation themed. He loved it and really loved that his dog was riding in the train. This was by far the most fun I have had making a cake.

This cake is kinda silly, and it was my second cake ever, so don't mind the plump characters (I didn't really know how to work with fondant and gum paste yet). My nephew wanted a Dr. Who cake for his birthday and I had no idea what that was. After some research this is what I came up with. He loved it however, and thats all that mattered.

This was my first cake ever. Looking back its not too bad. I remember not knowing what to do at all and it still turned out okay.

Those are the cakes I have made so far. I am going to venture out do more cakes here and there because I really enjoy making them. If you want to learn for yourself I watched 20+ youtube videos and then gained experience along the way. I still watch them to learn new techniques, but really that is all I did. You can do it!!!

Transportation Birthday

My son had his 2nd birthday this past June. I had a lot of fun preparing for it and making it cute for him. The theme was Transportation because my little boy is obsessed with cars, trains, airplanes, and boats. I searched Pintrest and other sites until I got my ideas all together. Hopefully this can help put a lot of good ideas I saw into one place.

I started with the cake. This is the cake I ended up making him. It was a lot of fun and I loved the bright colors.

We had the party in our backyard and so the "Pit Stop" was up on our deck. We had many fun food items and labels. The included: Boats on a Stick (Watermelon slices on a stick), Spare Tires (Oreos dipped in chocolate), Lube and Oil (Gogurts), Spare parts (Chips)

My mom is very hand with Illustrator as she is a graphic designer, so I had her make a template of a car, boat, plane, and train that I could use through out the party. Below is my centerpiece with all of the transportation.

There was a Traffic Light Toss. This was fun and easy for the kids to play with whenever during the party.

Here is the "Fueling Station". I put cute labels on the water bottles, had a mix of green cool-aide with a sparkling lime-aide as "Antifreeze" and Gasoline.

Here are some more pictures of the Pit Stop.

Lots of yummy food.

A close up of my banner that I also used for his first birthday. (So glad I saved it?)

For activities I had tons of cars all around the yard for the kids to drive and play with. ( I really wanted to do a road on our retaining wall, but I didn't have enough time.) The kids loved the cars. The pic below is not the best, but another activity was the pull string piƱata. It was a cute idea, but the kids all just pulled the strings at once and game over. I got it on Amazon for $11 I think. It was a cute idea.

My son loved his party and really loved his cake.

After the cake was cut up. I loved the fun colored layers. I just used white cake and then added food coloring to make the cakes the layers I wanted.

Well, that was his 2nd birthday. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun. I think the most time was spent figuring out what to do, so if this helps anyone my time was better spent.
